GOITRE
Definition:It is thyroid enlargement for any cause.
Causes:
1- Congenital ® Cretinoid goitre
2- Acquired
i) Metabolic:
a- Simple; physiological, colloid, and Nodular (solitary or Multiple)
b- Toxic ® 1ry toxic goitre ( Graves' disease ).
® 2ry toxic goitre.
ii) Inflammatory:
* Acute ( pyogenic )
* Sub acute ( Viral ) " de Quervain's disease "
* Chronic; Hashimoto 's disease or Riddle's disease
iii) Neoplastic:
* Benign Adenoma
* Malignant Papillary, Follicular, Anaplastic and Medullary carcinoma.
