Œ Median, ectodermal, down growth from the 1st and 2nd pharyngeal pouches which form thyroglossal duct. The down growth stops below the cricoid cartilage where it divides into two lobes connecting together by isthmus.
 The whole thyroglossal duct disappears except small part at the junction with left lobe and the isthmus which form pyramidal lobe

Ž The 4th branchial pouch form small lateral parts of each lobe.
