GYNAECOMASTIA
Definition:Enlargement of the glandular breast tissue to simulate that of virgin female breast.
Causes:
1) 1ry (idiopathic): The commonest may be bilateral.

2) 2ry due to increase oestrogen level:
a) Ectopic production of the hormone e.g. in bronchial carcinoma and adrenal or pituitary disease.
b) Leprosy may lead to bilateral testicular atrophy.
c) Patient. under oestrogen therapy e.g. CA prostate.
d) Liver cell failure
e)Testicular tumour causing anorchism or after castration.
3) Some drugs e.g. digitalis, spironolactone, cimetidine, and isoniazid may cause gynaecomastia.
4) Genetic: May occur in patients with Klinefelter's syndrome.
Treatment:
2ry cases needs ttt of the cause.
1ry cases treated by excision mammoplasty with preservation of the nipple and areola
