¦Aetiology: Gram-ve & less commonly gram +ve septicemia. ¦Types: 1-Hyperdynamic (Worm) septic shock:occurs in serious Gram-negative infections. 2-Hypovolemic hypodynamic (Cold) septic shock:occurs if severe sepsis or endotoxaemia is allowed to persist ¦Cl. Picture: ·Worm type: at first patient has a normal or increased cardiac output with tachycardia and warm, dry skin, but the blood is shunted. This leads to tissue anoxia and damage by anaerobic metabolism ® Multiple Organ Failure Syndrome. ·Cold type: The patient becomes cold, clammy, drowsy, and tachypnoeic but still can be converted to worm shock by the adminstration of several liters of plasma or other colloid solution. ¦Treatment: As oligaemic shock +Antibiotics + heparin.
